Van de Ven Brace Ends Everton's Run at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's first goal, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to review the goal on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's team into third place in the division, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Spurs box.
